About

Hi, I’m Mika.

I write Tokyo Undone, an independent travel guide inspired by everyday life in Minami-Aoyama and Omotesando, sharing local recommendations, neighborhood guides, family-friendly places, and practical travel tips to help you experience Tokyo beyond the usual tourist route.

I was born and raised in Tokyo and now live in Minami-Aoyama with my young child. After spending more than 15 years working in Japan’s fashion and retail industry, I’ve come to know parts of Tokyo that many visitors never discover.

Tokyo Undone is where I share the places I genuinely recommend—from quiet cafés and neighborhood parks to scenic walks, local restaurants, day trips, and practical travel tips based on firsthand experience.

Why I Started This Site

The idea for Tokyo Undone came from a trip to Auckland, New Zealand.

When I traveled there with my child for the first time, I found myself searching for family-friendly recommendations from locals—the kind of advice someone would give a friend, not just a list of popular attractions. I couldn’t find a site like that, and it made me realize visitors to Tokyo might be looking for the same thing.

So I created Tokyo Undone to share the local knowledge I wish I had found while traveling: honest recommendations, practical advice, and places that make Tokyo feel less overwhelming and more personal.

What You’ll Find Here

I focus on how people actually experience Tokyo rather than simply checking off famous landmarks.

Here you’ll find neighborhood guides, quieter alternatives to crowded tourist spots, cafés and restaurants I genuinely enjoy, family-friendly places, seasonal ideas, day trips, and practical travel tips based on firsthand experience.

Whether you’re visiting Tokyo for a few days, planning a longer stay, or traveling with children, I hope this site helps you discover a side of Tokyo that feels a little more local.
